Windows – Enable FIPS 140-2 Compliant Algorithms

The Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 is basically a U.S. government computer security standard used to approve cryptographic modules. All products that use cryptography by US federal military and civilian agencies must comply with FIPS 140.

In this post, we will show you how to enable FIPS mode on Windows operating system. Let’s follow steps below.


Steps 1. Open Registry Editor

Steps 2. Enable FIPS mode

– Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy

– Open Enabled and set Value data to 1
